What to Expect
What is psychotherapy? How do I know I need it?
Therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling is a form of treatment aimed at relieving emotional distress and mental health problems (psychologytoday.com).
There are many reasons to seek out therapy. Every individual's need is different, but if you are looking to see a change in your thoughts, behaviors, emotions and relationships, therapy is a great place to start. With that, here are few stressors that I tend to see in my office; these are not exclusive as many others do exist: anxiety, depression, anger management difficulties, unhealed trauma, self-esteem problems, relationship issues, communication difficulties, career changes, and grief and loss. My specialty is relationship issues (for individual clients) and working through unhealed trauma/abusive relationships (both familial and intimate partner).
What are the cost of sessions?
Sessions range in cost from $125 to $200 depending on the type of counseling (individual, couples, or family) and duration (typical sessions are a therapeutic hour which is 53 minutes).
Do you take insurance of other payments?
Yes, I take a number of insurances: Anthem, Sentara, Cigna, United, Optum and UMR. I
currently do not take Medicare. You may also use your HSA/FSA card and I take cash or
Credit/Debit. I currently do not take checks.
Good Faith Estimates
The No Surprises Act which went into effect on January 1, 2022 requires all healthcare providers and offices to provide patients with a “Good Faith Estimate” or estimate of the total expected charges for a healthcare visit. Under law, healthcare providers must provide this estimate to patients who do not have insurance or are not using their insurance.
Can I receive therapy if I/ my partner/family members reside in another state?
No, due to licensing restrictions, you and your partner/family members must reside in the state of Virginia to work with me.
How many people can attend therapy in an online session?
Only two people can attend sessions. Due to video conferencing restrictions, I strongly encourage that you not share your video links to protect your confidentiality.
Do you offer in person or virtual sessions?
Yes, I currently offer in-person and virtual sessions. Please make sure when you are meeting with me you are in a quiet, confidential space without anyone else around. This is for your protection and to maintain HIPAA compliance.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give me 24 hours notice (business days) to cancel an appointment.
Do you offer LPC or LMFT clinical supervision?
Yes. I currently offer LPC and LMFT Supervision to residents who have placements “offsite” or in the community and who are working towards licensure through the Virginia Board of Counseling. Please contact me to set up a consult time to discuss the process.
